Cathy Downen, Founder, MA, MA, LPC, NCC
Mary Catherine (Cathy) Downen founded Christian Counseling Connection, LLC to provide resources and support for licensed professional Christian counselors in private practice. Christian Counseling Connection has grown to serve a flourishing collaborative group of Christian counselors dedicated to creating a Center of Excellence for mental wellness in our community.
Cathy Downen is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Missouri and a National Certified Counselor. She earned a Master of Arts degree in counseling from Missouri Baptist University and a Master of Arts degree in English from the University of Missouri-Columbia and has extensive teaching experience as a college adjunct instructor. She is also a Certified SYMBIS Assessment Facilitator for premarital and marital counseling. Her professional memberships include the American Counseling Association and the American Association of Christian Counselors.
Cathy trusts in the guidance of the Holy Spirit to help individuals, groups, couples, seniors, and young adults improve their lives as they work through issues of mental wellness. Her therapeutic interests include: depression, anxiety, anger, stress, grief, regrets, relationships, self-esteem, boundaries, life transitions, women’s issues, career, education, goal-setting, premarital preparation, marriage enhancement, and other areas on the road to healthy living.
Using concepts and techniques that are a blend of several therapeutic strategies (including cognitive-behavioral, dialectical behavior therapy, narrative, positive psychology, existentialism, person-centered, and solution-focused), Cathy works within a Christian framework that is mindful and respectful of the individual value systems and diversity of her clients.
